Accepting submissions now through January 3, 2025 at 11:59pm EST.

For the 5th consecutive year, we are thrilled to accept script submissions for the Arts Incubator Short Play Fest, which will feature in-person, script-in-hand readings of short plays — live on stage at our newly renovated theater — on Saturday, February 22, 2025!

We are also accepting submissions from playwrights who are not within commuting distance from Irvington, NY and wish to stream recordings of their plays online.

Celebrating short, new, and in-development works of theater, the festival was launched by Irvington Theater in 2021 as an opportunity for playwrights to share their work with a wider audience and engage with that audience directly. Read on for info on how to submit!

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Plays should be unpublished, unproduced, and no more than 20 pages in length. Playwrights should only submit one script.

  2. All playwrights are responsible for assembling their casts and creative teams; this is an unpaid, non-union opportunity.

  3. Playwrights should articulate whether they want to be considered for the in-person or online portion of the festival. To be considered for the in-person readings, you and your cast/team must be local, or able to travel, to Irvington Theater in Irvington, NY for an in-person festival presentation on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

  4. Festival participants will be notified on or before January 24, 2025. All festival selections will be promoted across Irvington Theater social media and widely circulated emails, our website, and in-person signage throughout the Rivertowns, NY.

    • If selected for the in-person portion of the festival, you and your cast will be scheduled for a staged reading (music stands provided) of your play on Saturday, February 22, 2025, alongside other festival selections, at Irvington Theater in Irvington, NY (a 45-minute commute from NYC via Metro-North Railroad); you and your team are responsible for any preparation and rehearsals you deem necessary ahead of the in-person reading as there will be minimal time for a walk-through/spacing on the day of the readings.

    • If selected for the virtual portion of the festival, playwrights (and their teams) will be asked to deliver a video file of their piece no later than February 5, 2025. This video file must be in the MP4 format, with an HD resolution: 1920x1080 (1080p, 16x9 aspect ratio). Your video will stream for free on YouTube with other festival selections for a TBD one-week, limited release in February 2025.

How to Submit:

Send us your short play and additional application materials (via the Google Form linked below) by 11:59pm EST on Friday, January 3, 2025. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.
